| COMMUNITY | George Nelson Tremper Senior High School is one of 7 public high schools in the Kenosha Unified School District #1 located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Kenosha is an industrial community midway between and less than an hour away from the major metropolitan centers of Chicago and Milwaukee. Located on Lake Michigan, Kenosha itself is a metropolitan area of over 144,000 population and is characterized by outstanding parks, recreation and cultural activities. The Unified District encompasses all areas of Kenosha County east of Interstate 94 and is comprised of 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 7 senior high schools and an Educational Support Center. The student population is composed primarily of urban children and a small group with rural backgrounds. |
| FACULTY | The instructional staff consisting of 150 teachers includes 1.5 library media specialists, 1.5 social workers, a school psychologist, an instructional technology specialist, and a student activities coordinator. This staff is supported by 6 counselors, 3 deans of students, an attendance officer, a student assistance counselor, an intervention counselor, a speech clinician, a nurse, 8 secretaries, and 24 clerical and educational assistants. |
| OFFICIAL ENROLLMENT |
2,400 students 80 percent of the total student body is represented by white students, 9 percent by black, 10 percent by Hispanic, 1 percent by Asian, and .004 percent by Native American minority groups. |
| CURRICULUM | Since 1997, the educational program is offered in a school day of four instructional blocks of 90 minutes in length. This means that a student may earn up to 4 credits each semester. Courses are available in 12 departments with over 180 possible selections. Honors level course work is offered in almost every department. Advanced Placement courses are offered in English, Social Studies, Math, World Languages, Science, Music and Art. Through the Youth Options Program (YOP), the upperclassmen have the opportunity to attend advanced and/or enrichment classes at UW-Parkside, Carthage College, and/or Gateway Technical College, all of which lie within the Unified School District’s boundaries. All students must meet the admission requirements set by the participating colleges. The Youth Apprenticeship Program is available in the junior and senior years. |
| CAREER & COLLEGE EDUCATION CENTER | Tremper High School maintains a Career and College Education Center, which includes information on various post-secondary institutions, training programs, and occupation descriptions. The Center provides a variety of information on over 800 occupations as well as detailed information on over 4000 colleges through WISCareers. |
| COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM |
nformation on college admissions, exams and scholarships are provided. The PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) and a practice ACT are offered through Tremper High School. Test fees and registration are the responsibilities of the individual student or parent. Forms for registration, dates, times, and places for these tests are available, in the Student Support Office, the Career and College Education Center, and on the Tremper webpage. |
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To graduate, students in grades 9 through 12, must earn a minimum of 26 credits for the Classes of 2007and beyond. The requirements are as follows:

| GENERAL TESTING | Testing is a free service in cooperation with the Kenosha Unified School District. Freshmen take the EXPLORE exam. Sophomores take the state required Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE), and they also have the option of taking the PLAN exam. Students take EXPLORE & PLAN in preparation for the ACT College Admissions exam. |
| EXTRA-CURRICULAR | At the present time, there are over 35 different clubs/activities available for membership to our students. Athletics include fall, winter, spring & summer sports for all students. There are Drama and Academic competitions at the district and state levels. Music performance groups have gained an excellent reputation throughout the state and nationally. Art, Yearbook and Newspaper publications have also gained state and national recognition. Tremper has the largest Renaissance Program in the country. This is an incentive program that awards academic excellence, good attendance and appropriate behavior. |
| COMMUNICATION | Tremper Advisory Council, which is composed of parents, students, teachers, and staff, meets bi-monthly with the administration to provide advisory information. The Tremper Newsletter, published quarterly, is circulated to parents, teachers and other interested citizens. Communication with students is implemented through Student Government meetings as well as daily public address announcements. |
