This committee is a collection of upperclassmen who serve as coaches and mentors to the incoming freshmen class.  Visits to all feeder middle schools occur in the spring and the first day of school is a delayed start as the freshmen class is welcomed by the Freshmen Transition Coaches (FTC’s).  Throughout the year, the FTC’s spend time twice weekly in freshmen advisories to provide coaching and guidance.  As problems arise or new material needs to be distributed to freshmen, the FTC’s are their primary connection.

Vice President of Freshmen Transition: Natalle Brydges

This person leads the Freshmen Transition Coaches.  The primary role of this position is to provide a connection to Tremper High School for the incoming freshmen class each year.  The scope of responsibilities includes visiting incoming eighth graders each spring, organizing a welcome event on the first day of school, and arranging for regular meetings of FTC’s with the freshmen advisories.  The student body looks to the Vice President of Freshmen Transition as one who has solid coaching skills and works well with guiding others through activity leadership.

First Day of School Event:

One of the major events identified by the Freshmen Transition Coaches is to personally greet incoming freshmen on the first day of school.  Over the summer, the Coaches meet a few times to script a tour route, create banners, design posters, and align themselves with a freshmen advisory period.  They also design a green T-shirt that clearly identifies the Freshmen Transition Coaches during that first day. Their motto: Gotcha Covered.

All incoming freshmen will arrive on the first day of school and be greeted by the two Freshmen Transition Coaches assigned to them throughout the year.  There are two Coaches for every 28 freshmen.  The morning activities will include building tours, rehearsal of the bell schedule with a practice run to each class, and welcoming comments by school administration and student government leaders.  The entire morning will cater to the incoming freshmen before the remainder of the student body reports at 10 am for a modified school day.  This welcoming event was completely designed and is executed by upper-class students.  Ironically, these seniors are the first Kenosha students who have had all four years at Tremper, so they have a true investment with what an appropriate welcome should include.
