Tremper PTSA Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2009
Attendance: Dick Aiello, Renee Blise, Patty Mahoney, Sandy Rende, Maria Kotz, Karen Hohs, Kristin Schaeffer, Susie Hildenbrant, Gene Mathias, Patty Ault, Janet Schottler, Peg Concannon, Jodie Zarletti, Linda Coopland, Tony Pappenfus, Barbara McKee, and Carol Kok
Treasurer’s Report: No Report
Secretary’s report: The minutes were written by Carol Kok and approved (Rende, S/Zarletti, J.). Carol will get January’s corrected and approved minutes to Mr. Romano to be posted on the website.
President Report: Patty Mahoney
Legislative Report: Brad DeThorne has offered to chair this committee. No current report. February 10th is School Board Elections are April 7th.
Reflections Committee: No Committee for this year.
Donut Sales: May not be done next year since it is no longer a novelty for the students.
Bake Sale: May 7th
Cook Out: May 6th
More people are needed for progress report distribution at conferences.
Goody bags for the teachers at conferences are organized by Jennifer Santeler and the special need’s classes assembly the bags.
Go Pink: Todd Hardy last month asked for PTSA’s help with the April 24th Go Pink Day. PTSA will sell pink cupcakes and pink lemonade with all proceeds going to breast cancer research.
Scholarships: PTSA sponsors a $500 scholarship to any senior that is a member and writes an essay for consideration. Deadline is April 9th.
Kenosha Unified PTSA Council: Linda Coopland:
Meets at 6pm at the ESC every 4th Monday of the month. Linda Coopland reminded the group to attend this monthly meeting, as well as Convention on April 23-26 in Oconomowoc.

Students of the Month The first name pulled gets the $10 gift certificate to the Home Court and the preferred parking pass, and the next two names chosen each get a $15 gift certificate to the Home Court.

Student Government Report
2008-09 Student Government Member present: Tony Pappenfus
Tony spoke regarding:
Tutoring: This program recently started and is available in the cafeteria to all students.
Blood Drive: 670 people showed up with 517 being able to donate.
Upcoming Events: Mr. and Ms. Tremper, Basketball Game with Staff versus the team, Battle of the Bands, and upcoming positions available in Student Government.
Principal’s Report: Mr. Dick Aiello
9th Grade Academy: Will have dedicated teachers specifically to teach 9th grade students and will be housed in World Language Hall. English and Social Studies will run on an A/B schedule. This will allow for team teaching and continuity. There will be counselors and a new assistant vice principal dedicated to the ninth grade.
Traffic Patterns: Postponed
Cafeteria Project: The Board of Education approved the project. Mr. Aiello provided detailed drawings of the proposed plan. This is a plan to remodel the kitchen, cafeteria, and commons area. This is proposed to start on May 18th and be completed during the summer of 2009.

12. Old Business
l. Reality Check – Personal Finance classes will be involved in a simulation on Thursday. Each student will be given an occupation and family history and will be required to balance their household bills. “Reality Check” is being coordinated by Susan Pacetti. She is looking for parent volunteers for Thursday morning, March 19th.
13. New Business
a. Nomination Committee – Patty asked for volunteers for the Nomination Committee. The duties involve creating a slate of officers for next school year. Some current officers may want to run again since they are allowed a 2–year term.
b. Tremper Trophy Cases – Money is needed to fund the trophy cases. Information will be distributed to alumni athletes.
c. Bulletin Board – discussed in Old Business
d. Incoming Freshman Night – discussed in Old Business
e. Prom – discussed in Old Business
f. Retirement – Patty asked Mr. Aiello if he knew the number of staff retiring. He indicated that he would know the number by the next meeting.
g. Graduation – Marilyn Jensen asked for parent help on Graduation, Sunday June 7th . Parents are needed with ticket collection, ushering, and distributing diplomas after the ceremony. Mr. Aiello asked PTSA’s opinion regarding the formal gown attire of Tremper staff at graduation. The cost is approximately $1000. The general consensus was that it was nice, but not worth the money.
h. Secretary’s Lunch - Lunch will be Wednesday April 22nd. Patty distributed a sign-up sheet to help or donate food items.
i. Member concerns – Barb McKee mentioned that host families are needed for French and Spanish foreign exchange students this summer.
14. Guest Speakers: Tremper Assistant Principals Maria Kotz and Sheb Muhammad spoke on attendance policies. A few summary points include:
