12.  Old Business

l. Reality Check – Personal Finance classes will be involved in a simulation on Thursday.  Each student will be given an occupation and family history and will be required to balance their household bills.  “Reality Check” is being coordinated by Susan Pacetti.  She is looking for parent volunteers for Thursday morning, March 19th.

13.  New Business

a.  Nomination Committee – Patty asked for volunteers for the Nomination Committee.  The duties involve creating a slate of officers for next school year.  Some current officers may want to run again since they are allowed a 2–year term.

b.  Tremper Trophy Cases – Money is needed to fund the trophy cases.  Information will be distributed to alumni athletes.

c. Bulletin Board – discussed in Old Business

d. Incoming Freshman Night – discussed in Old Business

e. Prom – discussed in Old Business

f. Retirement – Patty asked Mr. Aiello if he knew the number of staff retiring.  He indicated that he would know the number by the next meeting.

g. Graduation – Marilyn Jensen asked for parent help on Graduation, Sunday June 7th . Parents are needed with ticket collection, ushering, and distributing diplomas after the ceremony.  Mr. Aiello asked PTSA’s opinion regarding the formal gown attire of Tremper staff at graduation.  The cost is approximately $1000.  The general consensus was that it was nice, but not worth the money.

h.  Secretary’s Lunch - Lunch will be Wednesday April 22nd.  Patty distributed a sign-up sheet to help or donate food items.

i.  Member concerns – Barb McKee mentioned that host families are needed for French and Spanish foreign exchange students this summer.

14.      Guest Speakers: Tremper Assistant Principals Maria Kotz and Sheb Muhammad spoke on   attendance policies. A few summary points include:

  • The first number to call for attendance issues is 942-2222.
  • A prearranged absence form should be used for college visits and/or vacations.  This way homework can be provided in advance so the student doesn’t’ fall behind.
  • If a student has Youth Options or Student Partnership they should not be on campus during that block.  If there is an extreme emergency it will be allowed.
  • If a student has an unexcused absence, that is considered truant by the state.
  • If a student is ill during school, he/she should go to the nurse’s office.
  • If a student has an appointment, the parent can call the attendance office to get him/her out of class. The attendance office will call down the student and sign him/her out.
  • If a student has Youth Option and is ill, call in the illness just as any other class.
  • Generally if a parent writes a note to excuse a student for a situation, the attendance office will allow it.  If the excused absences get excessive, the situation may be reevaluated.
