TREMPER HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MINUTES*
OCTOBER 16, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Introductions were made.
Guest Speaker – Kay Manderfeld handed out the schedule of Tremper High School Evening-with-the-Counselors Programs: 2006-2007. Kay stated that these meetings should be attended by parents and students. Each night is geared towards a specific topic.
Discussion took place as to what the differences are in regular, honors and AP classes.
Information regarding the PSAT test was also talked about. It is open to all sophomores and juniors. For the sophomores it is a practice test and for juniors their score counts. Parents can call Helen Dahl if you have any questions regarding the PSAT test. On the PSAT test, incorrect answers take points off, and on the ACT test, if you leave the answer blank, you will get points off. A practice ACT test will take place on March 2nd. The ACT/SAT tests are taken the end of a students junior year, usually in April and then again in June, if you want to repeat the test. Kay also informed us that all Advisory teachers received a guide with activities they can do with their Advisory class.
Treasurer’s Report – Renee presented the current Treasurer’s Report. See attached report for current balance and disbursements. Terri presented the proposal for Tremper athletic team chairs @ 75.00 each. Discussion took place and a motion was made to purchase one chair that will have Tremper PTSA on it. Motion passed on a Sharon Corso/Patti Ault motion.
Keith Corso asked that we look into purchasing new coat racks or at least getting them fixed. Sharon will look into this and present her findings at the November meeting.
Membership Committee – We currently have 233 members. Patti will be working with Sharon regarding e-mail addresses.
Secretary’s Report – September 18th minutes were approved as amended on a Gene Mathias/Jodie Zarletti motion. The website is updated. We hope to have the Tremper PTSA Membership Form posted on the website soon. This will allow people to print out a membership form at their convenience.
Vice President’s Report - Sharon will do correspondence for us.
President’s Report - Terri thanked everyone who worked the bake sale. We had a lot of people ask about how PTSA works and how they could become a member. There was a discussion about conferences. It was brought up to place the teachers in alphabetical order and to remind parents that there is a 5 minute limit; many lines were held up because of lengthy discussions. Homecoming went well. All students were “wanded” as they entered the dance. There were 1,684 tickets sold. The D.J. worked well in the center of the gym.
October 23rd – 31st in national Red Ribbon Week and activities are being sponsored by the Greater Kenosha Community Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Awareness Committee.
Principal’s Report – Mr. Kupka reported that a safe schools discussion took place recently. Tremper staff will be meeting with Sheriff and S.W.A.T. teams to make sure Tremper has a safe plan in place. A plan will be exercised sometime in the spring. Mr. Kupka reported that it will take approximately 200 student volunteers and 50 staff to act this out. The goal of this exercise is to have it look and seem real.
Mr. Kupka stated that the “Rachel’s Challenge” assembly was very well received by students.
Mr. Kupka will be meeting with the Student Ambassadors to see how things are going and if they have any suggestions on improving things.
Interventions are going well. Many students are taking advantage of this extra time for help in classes.
Drawing winners for the month of November are: Parking Pass – Molly Martin
School Store Certificates – David Engwiss and Aisha Lyons. Congratulations to the winners.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm on a Keith Curso/Renee Blise motion.
Next meeting will be on Monday, November 20th at 7 pm in the library.
Respectfully submitted,
Monica Yuhas
