  • We would like to use this newsletter as an opportunity to invite you to join the 2008 Tremper High School Girls’ Golf Team. We have one of the finest girl’s golf programs in the state and you can be a part of it. Our primary goal has been, and continues to be, to introduce girls to the game of golf. If you are interested in learning about golf, learning to play the game of a lifetime, and being part of a team, then Tremper Golf is for you!! You have no golf clubs? You know nothing about the game or have never played? You are interested but really don’t know where to start? UPPER CLASSMEN/PARENT MEETING MAY 12TH 6:30-8PM//////ALL FORMS CAN BE SIGNED AND TURNED IN FOR THE SEASON AT THAT TIME/OR ANYTIME PRE-AUGUST 10TH..BUT DON'T WAIT...DO IT NOW!

    County Winners 2007.

GREAT! Come on out! If you did not make the May meeting you can still come when the season starts, it just makes things easier for the Athletic staff at the school, if you take care of the paperwork before August 11th(that is a must...see Ms. Sorensen in the Athletic Dept). We love working with beginners as well as accomplished players and we have all the equipment you will need to get a good start. You have played golf with mom, dad or friends and you’re pretty good at it.
SUPER! We need you on our team and you will get a chance to play. Fourteen meets all over southeastern Wisconsin on some really nice courses on a team with some great kids, like you. Competition? Yes, but lots of fun too. Our season begins August 11th at 5:00-6:00 pm in Mr. Nerby's room/ behind the school store. One parent must attend with each girl at this time we will discuss team rules, clothing, fees and hand out equipment(if beginners need clubs). Grades 6-11(WE NEED FRESHWOMEN!!!) COME ON OUT AND LEARN ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING SPORTS IN THE COUNTRY, and are in good academic standing we would love to see you there.

If you decide to give it a try just come to the meeting in Mr. Nerby's room behind the school store on August 11th and
we will discuss who has all their paperwork in and is ready to practice/play the next day. The school forms must be completed by August 11th according to Mr. Fanning. The forms for sports are available in the athletic office at Tremper(see Ms. Sorenson). There is also a district sports fee required. . We can answer any questions about these or other matters... just give us a call at Tremper(942-2023 before 7:25 am and after 2:30pm) and we’ll get back to you right away.

Our first outside practice is at Bristol Oaks Country Club, Tuesday, August 12th at 7:15 am at the driving range. Cuts will come at the beginning of the 2nd week if necessary (33 girls were just too many in 1995--there were no cuts in 2001-2007). The attitude, drive and ability of each athlete will enter into the decision. There will be no ladder tournament. When you decide to come out for the team we know you are going to want a team shirt. Really, this is the only thing you will have to buy as a member of the team. Other items are available too (jackets, sweatshirts, etc.), but the shirt is all you need to buy. We will take care of
the orders after the season starts. Again, let’s say you have decided to come out and be a part of the team, what should you do this summer to get ready?
    • Take some lessons from a golf professional...Jack Thompson, Kenosha country club(Tom Beferra), Capoun's range, Bristol Oaks(variety of pros to pick from)( if you can afford it).
If you would like to do this see me for additional information. I might be able to recommend some places where the instruction is reasonably priced .

    Play! play! play!
How often does an adult tell you to play? Kenosha County has a great deal on junior passes for Pet’s and Brighton-Dale ($100 for 2008) and you can play all day for next to nothing for $5!

    • Attend clinics

at the Rec Pex April-May. Bristol Oaks has lessons/clinics. The
county runs clinics out at Brighton Dale.

      ..CALL COACH Phipps
      FOR INFO. 657-5672 or e-mail nphipps@kusd.edu

      • Attend golf camps!
I have information about these and there are some great deals out there, particularly the camp at the University of Michigan and now Wisconsin.
      • If you are an advanced player, enter the junior PGA events around the state...see the Wisconsin state Golf Association site
      • There are five within a few hours drive of Kenosha and I guarantee the girls from Horlick, Case, Park, and BRADFORD... will be playing these events... don’t let them get a head start on the Tremper girls!

      Fore!!!! Golf

REMEMBER-- If you play in a tournament you can not accept any money or gift certificates, this goes against WIAA rules. If you have any questions, see Coach Phipps!! Earlier in this newsletter we eluded to grades. Girls, we had another new policy in Kenosha, as of 1995, all athletes can only be failing one subject if they wish to participate in a school sport. This means we have to hit the books as well as we hit the golf ball! ALSO YOU MUST BE IN TWO BLOCKS. What do you think... want to give golf a try? We would love to have you on the team, so we have the chance to work with you and teach you the game of a lifetime, a game you can play with family members, friends, for leisure and for business. Please call Coach Phipps (657-5672 or e-mail nphipps@kusd.edu before 9 am to 8 pm) if you have any questions.
