As Good Morning America announced, Arie Luyendyk was chosen to continue his journey for love on the 22nd season of The Bachelor. Six years ago, Luyendyk appeared on season eight of The Bachelorette and was a day away from proposing to Bachelorette, Emily Maynard. During the season finale before accepting a proposal from the season eight Bachelorette winner, Jef Holm, Maynard sent Luyendyk home, leaving him with a broken heart.
Luyendyk has not been able to find love like Maynard’s since. Luyendyk states, “Now that I’ve had some time and distance away from it, it feels like the feeling I had before I went into it the first time,” he said. “I think sometimes when you’re on The Bachelorette and you jump right into being the Bachelor, for me it would’ve been too soon. This feels more natural. I’m not concerned what people think. I’m just focused on the outcome. I want to find my person and will do whatever it takes.”
Although Luyendyk currently lives in the United States, he was not originally from there. At age three, Luyendyk and his family immigrated from the Netherlands to the United States, which eventually led Luyendyk to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Formula One racer. After qualifying for the Indy 100, Luyendyk decided to switch gears and become a real estate broker in Scottsdale, Arizona. He became very successful, but realized that something in his life was still missing: love.
